Obituary of Thomas E. Vassil

Thomas E. Vassil, Sr., 85, of Owego passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017.  Tom was born on July 24, 1932.  He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Ethel Vassil; brother, Joseph Vassil, Jr.   He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan Vassil; four children and their spouses, Cindy and Peter Baron, Sharon and Daryl Hall, John Vassil, Thomas Vassil, Jr.; five grandchildren, Katherine, Darron, Matthew, Michael, Tyler; several nieces and nephews.  Tom graduated from Technical High School in Scranton, PA and served in the U.S. Navy and was in the Korean War from 1951-1954. He was a DCA Second Class.  Tom graduated Cum Laude from the University of Scranton in 1959, majoring in accounting. After graduating, he worked for Defense Contract Audit Agency and retired after 34 years of service.  Thomas was a member of St. Patrick’s Church,  life member of the Glen A. Warner VFW Post #1371, Tioga County Sportsman Association and the Candor Coin Club.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 300 Main St., Owego, NY.  Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.  The family will receive friends Tuesday Evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego.
