Please share a memory of Kay to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kay M. Hartman, 85, passed away Tuesday morning, August 7th, at Elderwood Rehabilitation Center in Waverly. She joined her husband, Robert S. Hartman, who passed away in 1995, and her beloved cat 'Bob' in 2016. Also, she was predeceased in 2017 by her sister in law, Ruth Hartman of Owego, and her brother in law, Thomas Hartman of Albuquerque, NM. Kay was born May 26, 1933, the daughter of Paul L. Martin Sr. and Dorothy (Yaple) Martin. She was a lifelong Owego resident and a 1951 graduate of Owego Free Academy and attended St. Patrick's Catholic School. While her children were growing up, she worked for many years in the OFA school cafeteria, where she enjoyed knowing many students and teachers. Later, she worked in the food service operations at IBM in Owego. Before her health began to decline, she was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Owego, and she enjoyed volunteering, gardening, reading, and spending time with friends. She is survived by her three children; Karen (Randy) Strong of Butler, PA; Wayne (Holly) Hartman of Hockley, TX, and Ann (Richard) Buckley of Chandler, AZ.; her brother and sister in law, Paul and Sally Martin of Owego; and her sister in law, Gail Hartman of Albuquerque, NM. Kay's children are indebted to Paul and Sally for their tireless support and care of their mom as her health began to decline. She leaves five grandchildren; Rick (Melody) Padgett of Newark Valley, Renae (Timothy) Kiefer of Vestal, Alison (Cade) Bowling of Tomball, TX, Brian Hartman of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Shannon Buckley of Clifton Park, NY. Her great-grandchildren are Jarrod Yee, Edna Kiefer, Baylee (Kevin Ellis) Padgett, Cara (Michael) Smith, and Devlin (Megan) Farr. Also, two great-great grandchildren, Natalie Farr and Weston Ellis, are due in August and September. Kay also leaves behind many long-time friends including Mary Jo Jenkins, Imogene Bradley, and Caroline Halstead of Owego, and her beloved "card ladies". Also surviving are her cousins Robert Thompson, Calvin and Jack Spaulding, all of Owego; Charles Yaple of Marathon, and Janet Manchester of Endwell, as well as many nieces, nephews, and their children. Kay's family profoundly thanks Diane Miller and her son, Nate Miller, for all of the care, support, and friendship they have provided for many years. Your kindness is forever appreciated. The family also thanks the staff at Elderwood Assisted Living and Elderwood Rehabilitation in Waverly for their compassion and care during Kay's extended stays. The family will receive friends at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego from 1 to 3:45 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2018.
