Obituary of Nancy Sue Matthei

Nancy S. Matthei, 85, of Owego died, Friday, January 29, 2021 in the arms of her husband of 63 years, Raymond, after a short illness. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Chester Graupner; brother, Gerald Graupner. Along with her husband, Raymond, she is survived by her children, Margaret (John), Michael (Georgia); grandson, Dylan (Danielle); step-grandson, Clint; sister-in-law, Jacky Graupner; nephews, Gerald, Jr. (Leslie), John (Terri), Jack. Born in Louisiana, MO, Nancy grew up in Evansville, IN. After their marriage and Ray’s service in the Navy, they moved to Owego, NY in 1960. Nancy was devoted to her family and her church. She sang in the church choir for 50 years and served as a Deacon and an Elder. In the community she served as a Director on the Board of Paget Price Presbyterian Homes for more than 25 years. An avid gardener, she surrounded her family with beautiful flowers and plants from early spring to late fall, when she brought many plants into their home. Christmas was a special time when she decorated her home beautifully and hosted the choir for an evening of fellowship and carols. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced soon.
