Obituary of Elvina Long

Elvina Joy Long, 85, of Owego, NY passed away on May 14, 2021. Funeral service will be held in Owego at Esty, Monroe and Fahey on Wednesday May 19th. Family will receive friends from 4-6 PM with service immediately following. Burial will be Thursday May 20th at 12PM in the family plot in Woodland Cemetery Syracuse, NY. Elvina was born in Syracuse to Andrew and Viola Sneddon on December 7, 1935. She attended Eastwood High School and graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University School of Nursing with membership in Phi Kappa Phi. She worked as an RN both at Syracuse Memorial and Robert Packer hospitals. Even after she left the paid workforce to devote herself to raising her family, she continued to serve as a private nurse whenever anyone in the family had need. Elvina had an extraordinary talent for cooking and hospitality. She was especially known for her special cookies and candy making. Her labors of love included special meals for family birthdays, Christmas packages mailed to her many friends and hosting hospitality suites for numerous Masonic events. Her generous spirit will be sorely missed. Her Christmas trees, filled with multitudes of ornaments, and her bell collection gathered through her travels with Rex brought her great joy. Elvina was predeceased by Rex Long, her husband of almost 60 years. She is survived by: her daughters Vickie (Dave) Rice, Celeste (Lenora) Davis-Long and Kathleen (Mark) Titus, grandchildren Brian (Joyce) Rice, Evan Rice, Melanie (Robby) Peters, Margaret Titus (White), and Andy (Adriana) Titus, and great-grandchildren Liam and Maeve White. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 4:00pm - 5:45pm at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego, NY. Funeral services will follow at 6:00pm at the funeral home. Services will be live streamed at www.emfaheyfuneralhome.com (click on Elvina's obit). Please note: All state required social distancing guidelines are to be followed. Interment will be private. A burial will be held privately in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse, NY.
