Obituary of W. Herbert Price

W. Herbert Price, 87, a longtime resident of Spencer, NY passed away on November 19, 2021. He was born on September 2, 1934, the son of William H. and Helen (Coons) Price. He married the love of his life, Anne Mohlar, on December 21, 1954. Together they cherished 64 wonderful years. Herb served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He led a very active life. He served as Mayor of Spencer, NY for seventeen years. He was a member and trustee of the Spencer Fire Department; a life member and past commander of Post 907 Candor American Legion and the Tioga County American Legion. He was a member of the Owego Moose. Herb was also a past President of the Evelien Hill Picnic Association, the Beaver Meadows Cemetery Assoc., the IBM Owego Federal Credit Union and past Vice President of the USS Sierra Vets Association. He was the recipient of the One Million Mile Club without a reportable accident in the U.S. Postal Service. He is survived by his children, Darlene Pulkinen of Cazenovia, NY; Debbie Trotter of Lansing, NY; Diane Belford of Bertram, TX; Dawn Shoemaker of VanEtten, NY; Donald Price of Katy, TX; and Denise Price of Spencer, NY. He enjoyed traveling, boating, four wheeling, hang gliding, and car collecting. Herb also enjoyed listening to good old country music and polka music. He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Lesli Combs, Dana Pulkinen, Taylor Price, Morgan Storm, Alexis Price, Kelsey Price, Emma Combs, Madeline Lent, Evan Combs, and Audrey Lent. He also enjoyed over the years his seven dogs, Nikki, Dusty, Tammie, Peanuts, Lady, Isabel and Annabel. Herb’s family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr Brian Cassetta, Dr Chad Batzing, and the Guthrie GI Department for their comprehensive quality care throughout the years. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 137 Main Street, Candor, NY with full military honors being accorded at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, May 13th from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
