Birgit "Brigit" H. Ball, of Owego, NY passed away peacefully in her home with her loving family at her side. She was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on December 31st 1928 the first child of Borge Schleimann and Hildegard Reindell Schleimann. Brigit is predeceased by her parents; her husband, C. Edward Ball; two sons, Ronald Kittredge, Larry Ball; her brother, Villi Schleimann; sister, Anni Sonne. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Fogelstrom (Hansen); daughter-in-law, Katharine Kittredge; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and David Smith; sister, Leni Torpenhort; grandchildren, Kirsten Caldwell, Anna Kittredge, Steen Kittredge, Jesse Prior, Rachel Hobart, Weston Smith, RaeAnne Miller, Karly Zeigler, Adam Hunter, Connor Smith, Morgan Smith; numerous great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Birgit was always an avid learner. She loved to read, bird watch, paint, and do crossword puzzles. She had a strong desire to love all things that crossed her path. Birgit was known for taking in stray animals and making a home for them. She was kind, compassionate and selfless. Above all, she had a strength that most can never match. Emigrating from Denmark at age 19, she established a life, career, and family in America. After her husband was tragically killed in a car accident, she was left as a single mother who never once felt sorrow for herself but instead, was thankful for and counted her blessings. Birgit was a woman of many talents but her greatest gift was the love she so freely gave away to others. The family wishes to express their sincerest thanks and gratitude to Birgit's special care givers, Bonnie Lillie and Sharon Colavito for their support and kindness along with Dr. Susan Choi who oversaw Birgit's health and wellbeing with the utmost competence, dedication and compassion for over 30 years. Though she will be missed greatly, she has left a lasting impression and legacy that will never die. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY. Burial will follow in the Tioga Cemetery, Owego, NY. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
