Obituary of Thomas John Karpel

Thomas "Tom" Karpel, 65, of Apalachin, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022, surrounded by his family, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Tom was predeceased by his parents, George and Evelyn Karpel; his daughter, Margaret "Margie" Mills; two brothers, George and Stephen Karpel; two brothers-in-law, William Paxton, Louis Roma; sister-in-law, Mary Dollinger; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Bernice Jarrett. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret Karpel; two daughters, Alice Shoultes, Kate Karpel and Josh Wilsey; four beloved grandchildren, Maggie, Anderson, Evelyn, Claire; sister, Catherine "Kitty" Paxton and her husband, Salt Garnesey; brother, Joseph Karpel; sisters-in-law, Jane Roma, Cheryl Karpel; brother-in-law, Michael Dollinger; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Becky Jarrett; son-in-law, Aaron Mills. several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended friends. Tom enjoyed coaching and watching his girls play sports over the years. He was one of the original members of the Squirrel Club in his old neighborhood in Owego and he was the one who came up with the catchy name. He will miss you guys…. Tom was a visionary when it came to houses. He saw a potential in any space. He always had a project going where he would creatively transform forgotten houses into homes. It was his passion and he loved it! A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1110 Pennsylvania Ave., Apalachin, NY. Burial will be in the Spring at the Riverside Cemetery, Apalachin, NY. The family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY.
