Dear DeeDee and Bill: Seeing your mom's obituary filled me with many emotions. Sadness, yes! So very sad for all who will miss her. Admiration, yes. For she taught me so much about authentic Godliness, wisdom, humor and humility. Respect, yes. She accomplished so much in her life, an incredible gift to humanity.
But dear ones, I will say to you, if there was ever anyone who is most certainly flying with the angels, it is your mom. Our loss is heaven's joy. May she continue to grow in light and love as she acclimates to her new life, in her new body in spirit. I will not say, may she rest in peace, Marilyn has much to do! I will say, well done, good and faithful servant, well done!" I know we will all meet again, by God's grace.

Scott, Mark, and DeeDee - My most sincere condolences to you and your families. The last time I was up to Owego and the United Methodist Church, I saw your Mom. Memories rushed back from church and Sunday school in my younger years, and how she was so caring, cheerful and sweet. She had a way of making me (and I’m sure countless others) feel special and valued. From my memories, and for so many years, she brought joy and positively that touched many hearts. Scott, you were my professor at TCCC, and you were an outstanding teacher just like your mother. Just like your mom, you made learning fun and interesting. My son had the privilege of having your mom as a teacher. I knew there was something different about my son as he preferred the company of adults over kids his age, was advanced in intellect, yet his social skills were lacking despite my numerous reminders and coaching to improve his skills. Marilyn scheduled a meeting, and shared heavenly wisdom to just continue to love him, and that he was perfect the way he was: he was different, not less than. And that with time and patience, all would be well. I believed and followed her advice. Later in life, I went on to get my Bachelor’s, then my Master’s in Special Education, and learned that in your mom’s day there were no names or labels, but my son was Asperger’s. He’s still super smart and now has great social skills. He’s a great human being, and I love him so much. Your mom loved him too. She helped to shape him with her love and patience and guidance. I’m so sorry that your mom died, but her life and energy lives on through the thousands of lives she touched. What an extraordinary human!

Mrs. Ochs was my kindergarten teacher and she inspired me to also become a teacher. I can recall so many wonderful memories of being in her class even all these years later.

Through the tears I write my sincerest condolences. Mrs.Ochs was one of the purest and most beautiful souls that I have ever met. She personified the word LOVE. I remember her walking up to me and looking in my eyes and saying "you need a hug come here" and I did and those hugs were magical! You could feel her calming love in her hugs... I miss those.
Not only did she have a impact on me personally, she absolutely had a profound impact on my children, they not only thought highly of Mrs.Ochs, they loved her. When we heard the news of her passing, we all shared in the tears of loss but we also smile because we know she's in such a beautifully peaceful place with the Lord and her husband and other loved ones who went before her.
We will always remember Marilyn with love.
As we age we face our own mortality and often ask ourselves if we made a difference during our time here.... did we have a positive impact... is the world (or at least our small corner of it) better because we added something of value to it....
Marilyn absolutely did make a difference. She had a positive impact not only on my family but on many families as well as on the community.

She made each person feel important. Human dignity mattered to her because you were made by God which meant he knew you were needed in the world. She was like Dr Who + Mr Rodgers.

Mark, Scott, DeeDee snd Billy, Reid and Amanda, Alex, David and Janet and all of the family and friends that Marilyn cherished, I am so very sorry for you but so delighted for Marilyn. She has seen the face of her Lord and heard the words we all long to hear " Well done, good and faithful servant ", I keep envisioning her welcome at Heaven's Gates.... much like her retirement parade through downtown Owego. Main Streets were closed and her motorcade was greeted by parents, children, and community members lining the streets she loved and hanging out of second and third story windows, clapping, and shouting "I love you" as they held balloons and homemade signs that honored her indelible fingerprints on the lives of thousands. Yes, I believe there was a similar celebration in Heaven with her mom and dad, her sisters and other family members and close friends and well-loved students who sadly, proceeded her. But soon... the crowd split and the love of her life, Reid, came and swept her into his arms and they began to dance on Golden Streets.... waltzes and waltzes and waltzes.... making up for so many long years.
For her amazing, loving legacy.... her family.... we are in constant prayer that the Comforter hovers over your homes and helps heal your broken hearts. Oh, how she cherished you! How proud each one of you made her... especially her "mini me", DeeDee, who well learned what a true teacher looks and sounds like. ( But as I single Deedee out, stories rush forward about each of you...and her pride, love and celebrations every time we talked.)
But what a blessing to know that someday you'll be reunited when He'll dry every tear and you'll never be parted again.
If you all don't know the song, " Thank you for Gving to the Lord", by Ray Boltz, listen to it. It's about Marilyn's life!
And Marilyn, I'm working hard, I still want to be you when I grow up!

Condolences to Mark, Scott and DeeDee. Many fond memories of Mrs. Ochs. I felt a need to edit my original post as I couldn’t find a way to adequately to convey my thoughts and still won’t here completely. I spent a lot of time with Scott and Mark, mainly Scott thru our high school years and wrestling. We went thru a lot of “shenagins” and Mrs. Ochs (I could never ever call her Marilyn) put up with it all with the patience of a saint and I truly believe she is a saint. Mrs. Ochs was such a supporter of her family and their friends, which I consider myself to be very lucky to be a part of. Again, thanks for the memories and my sincere condolences.

It was in the Mid 1970’s that we arrived in Owego with our 4 year old son and hundreds of miles
From any relatives. We decided to attend the Owego UMC and who did we meet but Clara Allen,
Marilyn Ochs, and Ruth Shumway. There were many others but Clara, Marilyn , and Ruth were so kind, generous
And caring to us. To this day, we remember, cherish, and are so thankful for these special angels in our lives. Though
We remained in Owego only 5 years, we still are thankful for our blessings. Our thoughts and prayers are with

Omgosh we are so sorry for your loss . Words can never say enough when it comes to such a loss. You were the most amazing teacher and all of our kids loved you and so didn’t we . Mrs Ochs was one of my very favorite teachers of all Time! I was very lucky to also encounter her at Sunday School. She always took time to patiently listen to this little girl and really heard whatever I had to say. She always looked me directly in the eye and encouraged me with a word and a soft loving touch. Later as an adult when I would encounter her out and about, she did the same--always the same sweet encouraging caring lady! She was a true treasure and someone I will always hold fond memories of. God bless you as you carry on her legacy.

What a wonderful, caring teacher Owego had in Mrs. Ochs! She remains one of my favorite teachers. I ran into her a dozen or so years ago, and of course recognized her immediately (I haven't lived in Owego in 30 years). I said, "Mrs. Ochs, how ARE you?". She said, "Pam,dear, you can call me Marilyn.". Nope, couldn't do it!
