She is survived by her sisters, Nancy McGavin, Nora M. She was also loved by her great nieces and nephews Dustin, Caitlyn, Rebecca, Madeline, Gemma, Gavin, Quinn and Kennedy.
Nila was a lifelong resident of Owego, and a graduate of Owego Free Academy. She often expressed her love for her hometown. We are thankful for everyone who looked out for her over the years, including the Southern Tier ACT Team. She moved into her apartment at Long Meadows in 2006 and benefitted from the friendship and support of the staff and other residents there.
Nila had a very strong faith and read Bible scriptures daily. She loved family gatherings, and enjoyed music, walking, and coloring intricate drawings. She was very generous and showed her affection by giving gifts to the special people in her life.
Private funeral services will be held at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a contribution in Nila's memory may donate to: The Southern Tier ACT Team, 100 Washington Street, Elmira, NY 14901 or Rehabilitation Support Services, Inc., 175 Main Street, Owego, NY 13827.
