On my parents 40th anniversary, we did a vow renewal. Our family was together and I officiated. This is what I said:
"Hello family and friends. We are here today to celebrate Robert and Edith's 40th wedding anniversary. 40 years and one month ago today, these two said "I do."
They said "I do" to the hard times and each and every obstacle. They said "I do" to the miracle of childbirth (five times) and to the good and not-so-good times that followed.
Their love for each other created their children: Angela, Robert, William, Christine and Me. That love has grown to include their grandchildren; Charles, Timothy, Samantha, Elizabeth, Robert, Colby and Nicholas and their children-in-laws; Dan, Janene, Tysha, Matthew and soon-to-be, Wesley.
A little seed of love, planted by Robert and Edith more than 40 years ago, grew into a beautiful garden, full of happiness and special memories, but like every garden, there has been a fair share of weeds. Each one plucked and pulled to make room for more beautiful and vibrant flowers.
We aren't a perfect family and we don't see or talk to each other enough, but we all love each other, and we aren't far from one another's thoughts each and every day.
Mommy and Daddy created that. We are grateful each and every day to have you both in our lives and love you both so much and wish you 40 more years of love.
Since we are all here today, we would like to take this opportunity to invite Daddy and Mommy to renew their vows and say "I do" to many more years of love, friendship and true forevers.
If they do not have their own words, they can repeat after me:
Robert:
Edith, I promise to continue loving you for the rest of our lives. I promise to grow older with you. I promise to kiss you always before bedtime. I promise to spend the rest of our years reflecting on our past and living for our future. Forever and always I promise to keep you and cherish you.
Do you Robert, take Edith to be your Lawfully wedded wife (again)?
Do you Edith, take Robert to be your lawfully wedded husband (again)?
By the power vested in me by The Universal Life Church ministries, I renewly pronounce you Husband and Wife.
You may now kiss your bride."
