Obituary of Richard William Harding

Richard "Dick" William Harding, 97, of Apalachin, NY passed away Friday, December 2, 2022. Richard was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Ruth Harding; three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Irene (Rood) Harding, to whom he was devoted; two sons, Wayne Harding, Terry Harding and Kathy Shirley; granddaughter and her husband, Tarrah and Dave Koehler; five great-grandchildren, Brenden Russell, Brittney (Ian) Williams, Kyle Russell, Kaden Russell, Madison Sims; great-great-granddaughter, Aliah Williams; special niece, Sandy Dixon; numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was born in 1925 and grew-up in Harford, PA, attended Harford School and served our country with the U.S. Army in Italy during WWII. In his 20's, Richard moved to the southern tier to work for Endicott-Johnson from which he retired after 44 years of service. Dick also worked summer weekends quarrying flagstone. Summers also meant family trips and vacations to Sandy Pond. In 1979, Richard and Irene built their dream retirement home in Hernando, Fl, which Richard enjoyed because he could golf all year long, and they were snowbirds for 30 years before returning to the area year round to be close to family. Words could never express the love and respect we have for you, dad/grandpa. You were the best! Thank You for everything… The family will receive friends Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. with services immediately following at 3:00 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY.
