Obituary of George Lee Penney

George Lee Penney, 92, of Apalachin, NY passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 6, 2015, at home. Mr. Penney is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen Penney; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Beverly Penney; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Penney was a member of the ASTP Army Specialized Training Program and a proud veteran of the U.S Army Air Force during WWII. After the war, he attended Bradley University. In 1964, he moved to the area to work for IBM. He later owned and operated The Hub in Owego and wrote for the Tioga County Courier. Mr. Penney was very community minded. He was an active member of the Tioga County Republican Party. He was a former Councilman for the Town of Owego and a former Legislature for District #4 for Tioga County. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Owego United Methodist Church, 261 Main St., Owego. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego.
