Obituary of Patrick Murray Shannahan

Patrick M. "Pat" Shannahan, 72, of Johnson City, New York passed away Friday, June 9, 2023 on his own terms, in his own bed surrounded by family. He is predeceased by his father, John Shannahan; mother, Bernadette McBride; step father, John McBride; his sister, Mary Eileen. Patrick is survived by his children, Therese Hampton, Phillip Shannahan; two grandchildren; his sisters, Ann Grassi (Douglas) and Karen Vinti; brothers Kevin McBride (Rebecca), Scott McBride and Rick McBride; several nieces and nephews. Patrick attended Maine Endwell High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably in Germany and Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Patrick loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, trapping, competitive shooting, camping, boating but he had a special passion for scuba diving. In addition to his outdoor activities Patrick loved bowling, video games, playing pool, watching movies, baseball and Formula One, auto and horse racing. Patrick was always learning, he enjoyed watching history, science and technology documentaries. He knew something about everything and was always willing to share his knowledge. Patrick loved his family and his friends. If you were friends with Patrick, you had a friend for life. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Hospice and especially his nurse May. The family will receive friends Monday, June 19th from 4:00 to 5:45 p.m. with funeral services following 6:00 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY. Patrick will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date.
