Alverta Lou "Berta" Roberts, age 81, of Newark Valley, NY, passed away on January 4th, 2023 in Johnson City, NY.
Alervta was born March 16, 1942, in Farmington, DE to Herman Smith and Mary Smith. She lived most of her life in Delaware, but recently moved to Newark Valley, NY to be with her immediate family.
Alverta spent her life taking care of others as a CNA in nursing homes and private home care. She also owned a chicken farm in Ellendale, DE with her late husband, Carl Roberts.
Alverta was a compassionate, kind, caring, loving and gentle sole who always put others before herself to ensure they were taken care of and comfortable. Her passions were her grandchildren and great children, gardening, nature, reading romance novels and antiquing. She loved camping and traveling in her camper, especially to the Amish country in Lancaster, PA and she loved country music, especially Conway Twittey.
Alverta is survived by her daughter,Rebecca McBride, son-in-law, Kevin McBride; grandson, James McBride; granddaughter, Shannon Miszczuk and her spouse,Davis Miszczuk; three great grandchildren, Adrienne Miszczuk, Erin Miszczuk and Lillian McBride; step-son, Daniel Roberts, his children, Samantha, Heather, Michelle; her three sisters, Hannah Cohee, Frances Carmean and Joyce Trader; many nieces and nephews whom she held close to her heart and loved them dearly.
Alverta was preceded in death by her late husband, Carl Roberts; father, Herman Smith; mother, Mary Smith; two brothers, Leon Smith, Junior Smith; three sisters Lib Johnson, Dorothy Harris, Pearl DeFord.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY. Burial will follow in the Maine Cemetery, Maine, NY. Condolences may be made to Alverta's family at www.emfaheyfuneralhome.com.
