Obituary of Alan R. Ahart
Please share a memory of Alan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alan Reid Ahart, age 84, was born July 27, 1940 and died on September 24, 2024. Alan is survived by his children, Denise and David (Lynette Loper), his granddaughters, Katie Dolan (Patrick) and Rachel, and his great-granddaughter Hayden Jean. He is also survived by his sister, Rita Ahart Quinlan, his sister-in-law, Virginia Ahart, his brother-in-law Robert Houck, and sister-in-law Nancy Ward, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Alan was pre-deceased by his wife, Jean Strong Ahart, his parents, Alton and Ethel Ahart, his siblings Richard Ahart, Barbara Sanders, and Carolyn Roberts, and his brothers-in-law Fred Quinlan and Jim Roberts. Alan was involved in many community organizations during his lifetime, including the snowmobile and four wheeler clubs, as well as serving as a volunteer fireman and later as a fire commissioner. He served as a trustee of the Maple Grove Cemetery Association, a position also previously held by his father. Alan and Jean enjoyed many travels over the years, including time spent twice yearly in Cancun. They were also avid fans of polka music and polka dancing. Alan would absolutely say his greatest accomplishments in life were his children and granddaughters, and he was an enthusiastic supporter of them in every possible way. He was the greatest Dad and Grandpa! Alan was a totally devoted caregiver for many years for his wife Jean before her passing, and generous and caring with his family and friends. He'll always be especially loved and remembered by his children, particularly whenever they hear the song, "I Did It My Way!" The family would like to thank Dr. David Kwaitkowski and the rest of Dad's extensive UHS medical team for all their excellent care over the years, as well as the nurses at Wilson Hospital and in the ICU who cared for him and all of us during his hospitalizations, especially this last one. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 137 Main Street, Candor, NY with the Rev. Phil Jordan, officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor, NY. Memorials in memory of Alan are suggested to Candor EMS, 62 Main Street, Candor, NY 13743, or to a charity of one's choice.
