Mrs. Betty Dodge
She will always be one of my beloved “Campville Moms”. Memories of her are scattered throughout my life from the neighborhood, Girl Scouts, and church. Memories such as climbing the ladder to the 2nd floor of the newly built garage with her and Sheila to see April, the Dachshund, and her puppies. So many Halloween nights trick or treating at the front door, dog sitting when they went away for a few days, working with her at BOCES as a student summer intern between my Junior and Senior year of high school. Summers spent at Girl Scout camp across the river back when we HAD to take the long way around. That trip would be so much quicker nowadays. Church youth group activities, Sunday School, eetc.
I will forever be grateful to her and Mr. Dodge for their help and thoughtfulness during my darkest times. The day my late husband Lance passed away my mom and I were on the ride home that afternoon from the funeral home after making his arrangements wondering what we were going do for dinner. As you can imagine it had been a long day that started at 4 am therefore, we were exhausted. When we arrived home we found that a Phil’s Chicken House dinner had been dropped off by the Dodges. It was like a great weight had been lifted. She also coordinated and delivered the luncheon a few days later to be enjoyed by family members after his burial. Just 5 years later she was the one to call and say “just give me the dates and times and the Ladies and I will handle the rest” twice within 3 months she delegated and coordinated two funeral lunches for after my mother’s memorial and my father’s burial.
She also kept reminding me I could call her Betty now and I would just say “old habits die hard”. I did try harder when my children were not around. I am sure you can figure out why that was and but it worked my children now address their elders as Mr. and Mrs. soandso.
Rest in Peace Mrs. Dodge
Sorry … Betty
Oh and say hi to my Mom, Dad and Lance for me.
Much love
