Eugene “Gene” Wagner, 69, of Owego passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, after a battle with ALS. Gene was born February 7, 1947 to the late August and Gertrude Wagner. Predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law, Terry Stannard. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jane (Kingsland) Wagner; three children, Cheryl (Joe) Courtright, Brian (Danielle) Wagner, Kevin (Katie) Wagner; four grandchildren, Branden Barnum, Taylor Courtright, Everett Wagner, Allison Wagner; sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and James Howe; mother-in-law, Ruth Kingsland; niece, Kristine Maslin; nephew, Scott Stannard. Gene was proud to be the third generation of Wagner Farm on Gaskill Road. He loved being on the farm, taking care of his cows, chickens and his goat. The only vacation Gene took was every November, when he could get out to hunt deer. Gene’s special pet cat, “Lucky” will miss him. Gene played high school baseball. His Senior Year, he was chosen to play at a Hall of Fame game in Cooperstown, NY. He was an avid sports and NASCAR fan. The Wagner family would like to extend a “Big Thank You” to Dr. Lazarus Gehring and Lourdes Hospice for the care provided to Gene. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego. Burial will follow in the Broadway Cemetery.
