Obituary of William L. Juska

William L. Juska, Sr., 97, of Owego passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at home surrounded by his children. Mr. Juska was born in Long Branch, NJ to the late Edward and Matilda Juska, who emigrated to the United States from Hungary in 1906. He was one of ten children and is survived by his younger brother, George Juska. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Muriel. He is survived by his children, Paula Smith, William and Maryann Juska, Phillip Juska, Paul and Leigh Juska; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren (with another due, July 8th); numerous nieces and nephews. After graduation from Long Branch High School, Mr. Juska worked for several years at Eastern Auto Sales before enlisting in the U.S. Army to fight in World War II, where he spent a year in combat in Okinawa. After the war, Bill began a 35 year banking career at the Long Branch Trust Company, where he rose to vice-president and manager of the bank. Bill was a longstanding member of the Eatontown Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid gardener and sports fan, especially golf, but will be remembered most for how he took enormous delight in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4:45 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport, NJ.
