Obituary of Alice V. Edwards

Alice “Renie” Haag Edwards passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 with her daughters at her side. Renie was born on November 30, 1930 to James and Jane Allen in Cambridge, England, who predeceased her. She is also predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Carl “Dutch” Haag; her second husband, Willard “Bill” Edwards; daughter, Karen Haag; infant sons, Christopher and Rodney Haag; brothers, Fred Allen and Geoff Allen; and sisters, Frieda Jones and Gwendolyn Norris. Renie retired from Cornell University in 1990. She was a life member of the Arden Kelsey Post 907 American Legion Auxiliary and the Glenn A. Warner Post 1371 VFW Auxiliary. Renie was proud to be an American. Renie enjoyed life to the fullest until she fell ill with dementia. She was loved and will be missed by many. Surviving Renie are her daughters, Kelly (Dan) Starkweather of Willseyville, Kim (Tom) Cotton of Candor, and son Ricky (Tina) Haag of Brooktondale. She is survived by her grandchildren, David (Shannon) Starkweather of Candor, Michael (Beth) Starkweather of Elgin, IA, Ashley Haag of Brooktondale, Heather Haag of NC, Morgan and Kevin Cotton of Candor; brother, Gerald Allen of Cambridge, England; sister-in-law, Barbara Allen, Cambridgeshire, England. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, Delaney, Darren, Anden, Brielle, Dayne and Carver. Renie had several nieces and nephews. Renie’s family would like to thank all of the nurses, aides, and staff at Riverview for their love and support over the last 3 years. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 6:00pm at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Candor with Rev. Philip Jordan officiating. Family invites friends to call from 4 to 5:45 prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made in Renie’s name to the Candor Emergency Squad, 58 Main Street, Candor, NY 13743 or the Riverview Manor Nursing Home Activities Fund, 510 Fifth Avenue, Owego, NY 13827.
