Obituary of Louis Selover Kies

Louis S. Kies, 87, of Owego passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017. Loui was born in Owego, NY to the late, Selover and Rena Kies. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Lou Kies; four children, Jeffrey and Patty Kies, Apalachin, Kathy and John Hansen, Owego, Gregory and Nancy Kies, Owego, Thomas and Markl Kies; 12 grandchildren, JoEllen (Paul) Kuhlman, Kristy (Tim) Schmidt, Chad (Jenna) Kies, Adam, Kali, Casy, Maxx, Joshua, Leanne, Sarah, Jamison and McKenna Kies; five great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Michael Schmidt, Sadie Kuhlman, Jackson Kies, Faith Kies; several nieces and nephews. Louis attended Owego Free Academy and was in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Salem. He worked at the family business, Kies Bottling Works, Owego, NY. He was instrumental in developing the Owego Little League Baseball, Owego Teener League Baseball and in the creation of Hyde Park Owego Little League Field. He was the Past President of the Owego Little League and Teener League Baseball and Past Commander of VFW Post #1371. One of his hobbies was being a carney with his Gramps and Old Fool’s Funnel Cakes. Loui enjoyed retirement watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing sports and dancing. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego with the Rev. Lenny Jackson, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell in the Spring. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4:45 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
