Obituary of Donald R. Ellis
Donald (Don) R. Ellis, 73, a longtime resident of Little Meadows, PA, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. Don was born in Endicott, NY to the late, Malcolm and Verna-Belle Ellis. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Paula Marie Ellis; brother, Malcolm “Mick” Ellis, brother-in-law, Paul “Bud” McNeal. Don leaves behind his devoted and caring wife of 56 years, Rose Marie; three sons, Donnie (Donna) Ellis, Waverly; Michael Ellis, Little Meadows; Scott (Patricia) Ellis, Apalachin; three great-grandchildren; fraternal twin brother, Dennis Ellis, Owego; sister, Nikki (John) Gillette, Endwell; brother-in-law, Bob McNeal; sister-in-law, Linda (Jerry) Ballard; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Don’s life took him in many directions, including work as a mason contractor, short and long haul trucker, heavy equipment operator. He was very skilled mechanically and was always building something. He could be found in his garage creatively working with his tools and fabricating useful things. He had a love for tractors that he pulled and restored. Don enjoyed socializing and attending monthly dinners with his family and cousins. He was very quick witted and always willing and available to help his family, friends and neighbors. He loved to be outdoors and meticulously mowed his grass. Over the years, he and Rose Marie, with family and friends, enjoyed boating and fishing at Sandy Pond, the St. Lawrence River and throughout the Finger Lakes. In his retirement years, Don and Rose Marie spent many winters at their place in Florida. Don was a very talented man and will be sadly missed by all for his intelligence and wisdom. The family would like to thank their extended family, friends and neighbors for their generosity and kindness during this difficult time. A Celebration of Don’s life will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. at the Little Meadows United Methodist Church, 843 Pennsylvania Ave, Little Meadows.
