Obituary of William Richard Riggs
William Richard “Billy” Riggs, of Syracuse, New York, died unexpectedly at his home on August 12, 2017. Billy was born in Jeju Do, Korea on August 17, 1981. When he was almost two he walked off a plane from Korea with a huge smile on his face and joined his forever family. That smile would light up a room, and sometimes you couldn’t tell whether Billy was up to some mischief, or whether he was giddy with joy over something! Billy loved to hunt, fish, and cook, especially if he could cook his catch of the day. From the time he was a toddler, he would fish all day, catching fish when no one else could. When it was time for deer hunting, he was bored the second day because he had shot his limit in the first few hours of the first day! He graduated from Candor Central School and attended SUNY Delhi and SUNY Cobleskill where he majored in culinary arts and restaurant management. He had worked at several restaurants over the years, but was currently working for the Elite Landscaping and Restoration Company in Syracuse. William is survived by his parents, Robert A. and Nancy Riggs, of Candor. Also surviving are his siblings; Joellen Riggs, of Candor; Robert W. Riggs (Katie), of Zionsville, Indiana; and Elizabeth Riggs Mosca (Bryan), of Chevy Chase, Maryland. He also leaves behind a nephew, Wesley, and nieces Francesca and Ilana, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. A funeral service will be held at the Estey, Munroe, and Fahey Funeral Home at 137 Main Street in Candor on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 5:00 PM. The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in William’s name to Valley Addiction & Drug Education, 136 Center St., Waverly, NY 14892.
