Obituary of Shirley I. McGee

Shirley I. McGee, 79, of Candor passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Helen Strope; husband, Charles McGee; brothers, Donald, Charles, Robert; sister, Virginia; and infant brother, Jackie. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Nancy Gehres of Candor, sister, Barbara Dalton of Candor; grandchildren, Jason (Johna) English of Middletown, NJ, Ryan (Kathy) English of Middleburg, Jeffrey (Shirley) Gehres of Candor, and Keith Gehres of Broussard, LA; great grandchildren, Lillian, Liam, Gabriel, Mya, Grayson, Hayden, and Hunter. Shirley was full of life and she loved to laugh, dance and sing. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. She was a member of Candor American Legion Auxiliary. Shirley worked for over 20 years at Ithaca Gun and Cornell University in Ithaca. After retiring twice she continued working at Price Chopper in Owego. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Candor with Rev. Robert Campbell officiating and burial to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Family invites friends to call from 10 to 10:45 prior to the services. Memorial donations may be made in Shirley’s name to Candor Emergency Squad, 58 Main St., Candor, NY 13743.
