He was the beloved uncle of Christopher Benham, Jennifer Coppola Monaco, David and Michael Toulson, Matthew Coppola, Mark Colvin, Sheri Crumbly, and Nathan, Joseph, Paul and Nicholas Fiacco, as well as several cousins, and many great nieces and nephews. Carl was very much a free spirit who, after graduating from Owego Free Academy in 1979 then attended Kansas City Art Institute. At the time of his passing he was employed by LA Packing and Crating in Los Angeles, as a shipper of fine art. Carl enjoyed life in Los Angeles and was a keen observer of the city and its people. He had a great appreciation for the artists, the artwork and the people in the art world that he came to know both professionally and personally in his twenty five years there. Himself an artist, he enjoyed painting, pottery, sculpture and sharing his knowledge and understanding of art with all those he met. Carl had many wonderful friends in LA with whom he enjoyed great meals, art and music events, and shooting pool. Carl certainly loved everybody and in turn was loved by many. Carl and his family were planning a celebration of their mother, Avis Nickse’s life, when Carl became ill and passed away. To honor them both, a joint service and remembrance of their lives will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 11 AM at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego. Family invites friends to call from 10 to 10:45 prior to the service.
