Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Doris B. Hefft, 82, passed away early on Friday, August 29, 2014 at Elderwood in Waverly, NY. A lifelong resident of Owego, she was born on April 1, 1932. She loved her hometown and was proud to be the third generation in this area. Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Frank W. Hefft, in December 2005. Also predeceasing her were her parents Walter E. and Grace Bradley; brother Lewis Bradley (Owego); brother and sister-in-law Walter and Frances Bradley (San Francisco); and brother-in-law Ralph Hefft (Owego). She is survived by her devoted son, Bradley Hefft, who was her loving caregiver in her declining years; her daughter Bonnie Ryan; and her treasured granddaughter Shannon Ryan, all of Owego. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Imogene Bradley and Jean Hefft; Joan and Paul Jantz; David and Meredith Hefft; and numerous nieces and nephews. Doris was kind, thoughtful and very generous to all, including those she barely knew. She enjoyed getting together with friends, traveling, cruises, visiting casinos, eating out and she was an avid bingo player. People always took to her and she to them, people often remarking to her family what a wonderful person she was. Most everyone who knew her made a lifelong friendship, and she loved to talk. When the kids in the neighborhood were little they called her “Dodo” and she would still answer to the fun nickname decades later. Doris worked for the New York Telephone Company from 1950-1965. She worked for IBM Owego from 1965 (switchboard then CDC) until retirement in 1990. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego, with the Rev. Parrish Bridges officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
