Obituary of Thomas Joseph Ash
Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thomas J. Ash, a lifelong Owego resident, went to join his mother, Dell Ash on Sunday, August, 20 2023. Tom was considered a staple in the Village of Owego by many people. Many fondly remember him as the guy on the corner. Weather they bought insurance from him, chatted over coffee or just looked for the man smoking his cigar and had a wave as you drove by or one of his trademark greetings of "Hi Ya Lucky!" or "How are Ya Partner?" It was a running joke with many that the river couldn't start flowing until he pushed the button every morning on his walk through downtown. Tom was a proud Owego Indian and was an outstanding athlete for OFA. He held a few basketball records for the school including 29 rebounds in a single game. One memory he treasured most was having hit the first homerun in Owego Little League History. The little league park was one of his favorite places in Owego. Tom coached Owego Little League for many years and even took a team to victory in winning the first District 7 Championship! Tom was a well-known insurance agent and owned the Tom Ash Agency in Owego. He was very community minded and served on the Owego Town Board, was a member of the Owego Moose Lodge and the Owego Elks Lodge. Tom is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, Liz (Matt) Shaughnessy and Greg (Debra) Ash; his stepchildren, Pete (Sheryl) Ferrera, Tammy Ferrera, Katrina (Shane) Freeman; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 300 Main St., Owego, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom Ash's memory to the Owego Little League or Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 N. McKinley Ave., Endicott, NY 13760. The family is being assisted by the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home. Condolences may be made to Tom's family at www.emfaheyfuneralhome.com.
